Introducing the manuscript of Amir Seyyed Ali Hosseini's "Riyahin al-Qulub" (translation of Saadi's Golestan)

Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Riyahin al-Qulub is a translation of the Golestan poem by Sheikh Ajl Saadi Shirazi. The manuscript was written by a talented poet named Amir Sayyid Ali Hosseini in the 9th century AH. The author has arranged the entire Golestan in eight chapters, a preface, an opening and a closing, and has used titles such as translation of verses, translation of a piece, translation of a Mathnavi, translation of a prayer, etc. Except for the introduction of a short poem describing Sultan Khalil and praising God, the rest of the manuscript has been translated and translated based on Saadi"s Golestan and has written the title of each chapter at the beginning of it. The aim of the present study is to introduce and introduce this unique manuscript in relation to Saadi"s Golestan.

METHODOLOGY: The present research method is descriptive-analytical. Considering the single copy of the work, the method of comparative copy correction has been used to correct and introduce the work.

FINDINGS: Only one copy of this valuable manuscript was found in Nur Osmaniyya (Istanbul, No. 3930). A photo file of the aforementioned manuscript has been received by the authors of the study for correction. It is important to note that this work is the only translated work of Saadi"s Golestan.

CONCLUSION: The results of this research indicate that the manuscript of Riyahin al-Qulub, the translation and rendering of the Golestan poem by Sheikh Ajl Saadi Shirazi, was done by a poet who was a good taster and devoted to Saadi, Amir Seyyed Ali Hosseini. The scribe of the work is also Amir Seyyed Ali Hosseini himself. He lived in Shiraz several centuries after Saadi"s death in the 9th century AH, during the reign of the Aq Qoyunlu dynasty, and tried to transform Saadi Shirazi"s Golestan from mursal prose to a fluent and simple rhyme, and to an expression even simpler than the Golestan itself.
